FLYING / SCENIC FLIGHTS
Dolna Banya Airport is the first private airport in Bulgaria, fully licensed under the requirements of Civil Aviation Authority. It is situated in the upper Maritsa river valley. The whole area is perfect for flying and what better way to view the wonderful scenery including mineral springs, rugged mountains and forest reserves.
SKIING
Although a beginners paradise, there are runs to suit intermediates, advanced and expert skiers alike.
The runs are maintained to the highest international standards and have multilingual signs. The Borovets Ski School is renowned as one the best in Europe with around 200 ski instructors fluent in many different languages.
SNOWBOARDING
Snowboarding in Borovets is extremely popular. With an impressive snow record, the area has all types of runs from easy greens to steeper red and black runs for the more technical riders. There is a huge potential for free riding with easily accessible powder and for freestyle riders there are a few kickers and rails.
SKI-DOOS
Snowmobiles or ski-doos are a fun option for winter sports enthusiasts. These can be hired in the Borovets resort and driven around the spectacular Rila Mountains.
SLEDGING
Sledges can be bought or hired from the shops in and around Borovets and this is a fun activity for young and old on the nursery slopes.
NIGHT SKIING
Borovets is one of the best places in Europe to enjoy Skiing and Snowboarding into the evening.
When the sun goes down the floodlights come on and you can enjoy hours more fun on the slopes.
The experience is not to be missed with the snow covered slopes and pine trees looking magical against the night sky.
NIGHTLIFE
One of the big draws of Borovets in the ski season is the nightlife. Not only is the food and drink very cheap compared to most of the other EU resorts but there is a wide range of establishments to choose from.
Whether it is the buzzing bars and nightclubs, quiet bars overlooking the floodlit slopes or atmospheric resturants, Borovets can cater for all.
GOLF
A brand new golf course is being built . The new course is situated in an area of stunning natural beauty down in a valley surrounded by mountain peaks, and is being designed by the son of legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus.
The Golf Club AIR SOFIA is located 50 kilometers southeast of the capital Sofia in the outskirts of the town of Ihtiman which also has it’s own golf course located there and is also only 30 minutes from Maritsa.
The Golf club has a 18 hole golf course, horse riding club, 2-lane bowling, squash hall, 2 tennis halls, outdoor swimming pool, indoor swimming pools, a children’s playground, table tennis and a bar.
HIKING
Hiking and walking have long been a tradition in Bulgaria, visitors will certainly want to discover the mountain region of Rila National Park with breathtaking scenery at every turn. The Vitoshi Peak over-looking the capital Sofia affords some fantastic city and rural views. Thanks to a well established network of walks, the visitor has the choice of more than 5,000 marked paths and routes through unspoilt nature.
WATER SPORTS
The Iskar Lake has many water sports on offer from wake boarding, waterskiing and windsurfing to the more serene options of canoeing or pedal boating with reasonably priced tuition available. The area has an excellent hot summer climate, perfect for sunbathing and relaxing overlooking the tree-clad mountains that seem to just drop down to the shores of this beautiful lake.
HORSE RIDING
There is a wide choice of horse trekking tours available. Riding along the paths on the Rila and Stara Planina mountains, breathing in cool mountain air and history at the same time. Horse riding is an enjoyable, quiet and ecologically way of seeing some of Bulgaria's glorious scenery.
Horses can be hired for short guided trips and possibly for long distance journeys. In Borovets, you will find the horses all lined up, ready for your excursion. Whether you an experienced rider or a beginner, Bulgaria has superb stables with excellent riding schools. You will be able to ride in the Rila mountain and enjoy superb views, picturesque paths and easy terrain.
FISHING
The area has many options for those who enjoy to fish - well stocked lakes and unpolluted rivers offer some of the best fresh water fishing in Europe.
